IRCd Upgrade Done

I had a bit of time and found out a way to make a backup of all the configs, and the databases for the services, so I got those which saved me a bit of time, thankfully. We’re running the latest stable version of InspIRCd now, which is 2.0.5. I had to muck around with it a bit and fix some dumb mistakes I did (I’m human too~) to get it running again, so took a little longer than intended.

Now on another matter. The server has been rather up and down lately, or a daily PMS. Its getting stupid, I know.. but its beyond my control. However, EvilEntity is getting a box prepared for me to use as a server box, and I’ll just self-host the IRC server itself. I’ll post more updates regarding that as time goes on, but if luck is with me, I should have it by the end of the month at the latest.

IRCd Upgrade Soon

I’m gonna plan out upgrading the IRCd soon to the latest stable version that’s available. I need to copy the configs so that they match and that’s going to take me a while. The copy of the configs I have locally are not quite as up-to-date as I’d like, but they only need minor tweaking to fix that, so they’re not far off. I’ll post more updates as I can and when available.

Far as features go, I don’t believe anything new will be around for public use, maybe a few updated/new channel and user modes perhaps to play with. I’m not sure, I’ll do some documentation if needed and update where necessary.

On another note, it may be apparent that there have been issues on the server. I do apologize (rather late) for that, and I’m trying to figure out what to do. I have two friends who are going to help me out with obtaining a couple boxes and we’ll just self-host ShadowHime. I’m tired of piggy-backing and its time to self-host things. The web server will remain where its at, but the IRC itself will move and hopefully it’ll be seemless. At least that way if an issue occurs, I’ll have plenty of people to talk to in case something goes wrong and I don’t know how to fix it. You can thank EvilEntity for one of those boxes as he’ll be able to provide a box for us here, so be sure to give him a beep if you see him online in #insanity_refuge.

Server open to the public!

Yep, that’s right. Server is open to the public! The address is the exact same as before, no differences. The only real differences are the channel and user modes, as some may have changed around. Most have stayed the same, but a couple have changed from the last version. Please see the tutorials page for further information.

ShadowHime is Coming Back!

Yep, that’s right. ShadowHime is coming back! And with a few changes to boot…

So why haven’t I posted in forever? Because I’ve been too busy with other things. But I am very active in the anime community though, so if you know how to search for me, you’ll see. Anyway, a good friend of mine, Kalshion, was kind enough to purchase an IRCd package for his website, Insanity Stories Prelude and I manage the IRC server, so to speak.

Now here’s the thing. Due to a hard drive crash on my laptop, I actually did lose all my original configs, so I had to make new ones and all that. Not a fun thing mind you, but it can’t be helped. Even the databases were lost because the backup I did have was actually corrupt from the start. Go figure….

I’ve already made some changes to the Channel Modes so they are not up-to-date. User-modes will be updated soon enough, and I’m sure you noticed a change or two since I have been updating WordPress off and on as it is updated. Stay tuned for further updates before I let this server go public. Channels will be updated, and this time, there will not be as many official channels, so just bare that in mind. Which reminds me, I need to set up a page for Kalshion maybe since well.. he will be part of staff of course. Noratetsu I’m not sure…… I’ll think about it. *whistles*

One final note, HostServ rules may get a small revision, but I’m going to have to read them and see if any changes are needed. I know of one now, but that’s about it.

Server is now gone

Yep, this is final. The server is down, I turned off the processes, and there is no turning back now.

I have put in a final request to cancel the payments and the server is now offline. Don’t try and change my mind, I’m not this time. After I’ve been contacted for a possible use, I never got a reply back and now I feel somewhat stupid for doing that. (waiting about a week or two didn’t really seem to help the matter)

With that, the ShadowHime IRC is now gone, but not dead. I kept the configurations if I want to revive it in a different form at some point in the future. But for now, there’s more important things to do than keep an IRC running when no one is going to use it.

The blog will remain here, but I doubt I’ll put out any updates or anything for quite a while. I still have my CG stuff on this domain anyway that I manage, so one way or another, this place is staying unless I do something different for it.

Upgrading IRC

Yep, with the module testing going very well and with little problems, we’re going to be upgrading the IRCd we use.

Now, the IRC will probably be offline for a few hours from the point I posted this. Or, it could be done for a day or two, but I doubt that. =^.~=

From this post, the IRC is officially not available and will be back up soon enough. I’ll edit and comment when the changes are done, because I have to recompile the services as well to a newer version in the SVN (stable branch, so ya know, so no tricky bugs or anything like that), but I will make sure that nothing gets lost. I have made a backup of the stuff on my computer before I begin doing all the changes.

Anyway, stay tuned. ^_^

[edit]
Ok, upgrade is complete. There are also some new modes for everyone to use as they please. They are under the Tutorials page for Channel Modes. I will probably have to re-write it a little due to the fact that the upgrade might have changed a few things from the previous version.
