Recent Site Downtime

Apologies for the recent downtime. For some reason, something got knocked off and the blog couldn’t connect to the database. Oh well, that gave me an opportunity to change it to something much stronger since apparently.. it was stupid weak…… Yeah yeah, I know. I learned my ways now.

Anyway, site is back up and operational. Mostly as a placeholder for now until I feel like actually doing something with ShadowHime again. I don’t know what I want to do with the site or just do something entirely different from the ground up or something. I have no clue…

Still Here!

Yeah, we’re still around. Not dead at the moment. Me personally, I’ve just been busy with work the past few months now and all that. Servers are still up and welcome for anyone to join in. Course, I noticed some spam comments and what appeared legit, but from the wording and the posts that were commented on seem out of place, so they’ve been removed.

NickServ Tutorial Revision

So, thought I’d let y’all know that I did a little revision of the tutorial for NickServ. This is because of one major change that was done: NickServ Accounts.

When I updated the services, I decided to change from nickname ownership to account-based to be easier to identify to a single account, instead of a name. This should also make it a bit easier for those who just want one vhost across all of their nicks, but I haven’t explored much into that bit.

I have more changes coming, and I am planning to do a small re-format of the BotServ page, and ChanServ is getting some additional notes on a brand new system that was introduced for managing access rights in channels: Flags. This will mean that not only will the xOP and ACCESS systems remain, but a third one is introduced. I will have more information regarding those in the future. It’ll take me a while to find a bit of time to get all of this done, but the NickServ revision is the beginning.

Front Page on IRCIndexer

So random bit of news. After just randomly finding out earlier in the night, our network here is on the front page for the week of July 27th and I’m only just now finding out. Well, hey, better late than never. XD

For those curious, IRCIndexer is a service for searching and indexing IRC Networks and I submitted mine after SearchIRC died a long while back. IRCIndexer took its place and I submitted this network there to maintain the information.

Mmm boy…

Uh, well now this is a conundrum. I don’t look at this site for a while and thinks sorta broke behind the scenes in one of the WordPress updates. Guess I’ll be shopping around for a new theme I guess. Shame, I’m quite attached to this one.. Well I guess things have to come to an end with the old.

The packlist thing had been left not updated mostly due to my fault because… quite embarrassingly, I forgot the FTP password briefly. I finally figured it out and get it updated, though the page date won’t reflect that. Not sure why or anything, but likely due to the theme being somewhat out of date. Well, eventually I’ll get a new theme I guess. Depends if I can find any that will suit all those damn pages I have. (which is why I liked this theme in the first place..)

New CAPTCHA for the Forum

I’m probably going to do the same for the blog too actually, but some of the spam comments I see in my queue are rather hilarious in how so painfully obvious spam they are. I’ll think about it, but for the time being the CAPTCHA has changed on the forum. Instead of the FACKWORS possibility, I got rid of the SMF default and replaced it with something a bit more… fun. Well, it has to be fun, or it wouldn’t be called FunCAPTCHA, now would it?

I think that’s all I got to report for now. I’ll still think about adding it to the blog, but I might not. The current anti-spam measure is doing a rather good job at weeding out those dumb spam comments. I just love how hard they try with the million letter comments with links all over the place. Obvious spam is.. obvious, nee~?
